Sights

Parga and its surrounding area, with stunning beaches and unique natural beauties, is one of the most popular spring and summer getaways.

Surrounded by a lush landscape, with its narrow cobblestone streets, traditional “kadounia”, its bustling neighborhoods, the stunning beaches and the view to the island of Panagia, located just across the street.

The most important monument of the city is its Venetian castle, built in the 14th century with the help of the Normans and offers stunning views across the Ionian Sea, the mountains of Lefkada and the islands of Paxos and Antipaxos. It is located on a fortified hilltop that dominates at the entrance of the port of Parga and the nearby enormous beach of Valtos.

In the city center, you can visit the ecclesiastical museum, the church of St. Nicholas, protector of Parga, and stroll along the picturesque alleys to buy souvenirs and local products.

Parga and its “strategic” location are ideal for many excursions to beautiful places and attractions. In the majestic mountain sceneries, there are picturesque villages worth visiting, such as Agia, Agia Kyriaki, Anthousa and Trikastro.

Very close to Parga, at an imposing hillside between the villages of Anthousa and Agia, 5 km to the north, there is the impressive castle of Ali Pasha, which was built by a European architect, under the direction of Ali Pasha, to supervise Parga. The castle lights up at night offering a unique spectacle. The castle lights up at night offering a unique spectacle.

About 15 km from Parga, the most important ancient monument of the area, the ancient necromancy of the Acheron River, is located. Here the ancients believed that the underworld gates that led to the kingdom of Hades were located. At this point, Hermes led the souls, which were then taken by the boatman-Harrodas to pass them across, in Aherousia Lake, in the heart of which was the kingdom of Pluto-Hades and Persephone.

Also from Parga you can take a boat to Paxos and Antipaxos or go to the beautiful Sivota, near the road to Igoumenitsa.

In Parga and the surrounding area, you can choose among organized beaches and other smaller and quieter beaches.

The most famous beaches are Valtos, the length of which reaches 3 km and is located behind the Venetian castle of Parga, Lichnos in a beautiful and natural environment and only 4 kilometers away from Parga, but also the central beach of Kryoneri.

A little farther away, 19 km from Parga, is Sarakiniko, offering a quiet holiday, with blue and crystal clear waters and fine sand on most of the beach
